“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39.
We have been back in the Somerset Coal Canal since beginning of October after having a really good journey with good opportunities to share the Gospel. Alpha has started again on Litania and we would value prayers for this outreach. As yet not very many boaters are coming, but we are encouraged by the ones and twos. There continues to be more needs than ever with the boaters and we praise God for a willingness for the boaters to ask and receive help.
Recently there has been two accidental drownings of two young men which has shaken the community, but given opportunities to pray with one or two of the boaters. One particular man, who is known for causing lots of trouble on the canal, accepted prayer from one of our team as he was upset at the news and has also accepted a Bible. As we know, God does use all situations to bring people to a realization of their need for Him.
In the last prayer letter, we asked for prayer for Lin with pain she was having. It has now been diagnosed and she has Ovarian Cancer, which has spread. Lin felt she would not go through gruelling treatment with very little guarantee of success. The Oncologist has said she has some months to live, but we are all praying for a miracle. She is being looked after on the boat by a fantastic district nurse and a doctor who visits her.
The nurse has become a friend and every week she comes, she asks us more about our faith and what made us come to live on the boat. This has given us a wonderful opportunity to share our Testimony, as yet she is not a Christian but we pray that she will give her life to Jesus. Please pray with us. Lin recently spent a week in hospital so the doctors could make her more comfortable. In that time she got talking to a patient in the bed opposite who heard her reading Psalm 40, she asked Lin to read it to her which she did and then Peter was able to give her a New Testament and Psalms to keep.
How wonderful God can still use us in any circumstance in our lives. WE GIVE HIM ALL THE GLORY In spite of these difficult times there have been many blessings, we have enjoyed lots of visitors coming to see us. Peter has curtailed some of the more distance preaching engagements but continues to carry out the local dates. We had to cancel our Carol Service this year, but Henry and Lin on “Trinity” held one at Rickmansworth with a band and a choir on the 8th December. We are hoping to take out Christmas hampers to the boaters again this year on Litania. It is such a special time to show the Love of Christ. Please pray for good opportunities.
Many of our Team are suffering ill health. Please could we ask for prayers for them. Two have serious heart problems and one is in hospital with pneumonia. Another is recovering from Bowel Cancer but praise God is doing very well. We do feel the attack of the enemy within the Team indicates that God is working on the waterways.
None of us know what the future will bring, but these precious words from Scripture give us hope for today and to trust Him for what’s to come:
“Trust in God with all your heart. He will direct your path and walk with you along it, even through the rough places. He will give you strength for each day and hope for tomorrow.”
Thank you for your continued love and support as we endeavour to serve the Lord on the waterways.
Love in Jesus' Precious Name
