Peter had been a pastor in two Churches for 21 years, but God called him to work on the Canals and Rivers, and has lived on narrowboat called “Gospel Belle” for around 20 years. Having travelled the country sharing the Love of God with those he met, he now spends most of his time on the Kennet & Avon Canal, particularly around the Dundas and Bathampton area. His work as Canal Chaplain is supported by “Canal Ministries”, a Charitable Trust. There are 10 other boats with the Mission with whom he works. The Canal Ministries Team and Trustees are like a family and the fellowship is wonderful.

The team attend festivals and canal days, getting involved with Churches in Mission and Training in Evangelism. Ha has recently been involved in Alpha Afloat, holding sessions on a boat called “Litania”. Part of the ministry is to support the liveaboard boaters in any way we can, which could mean food parcels, benefit help, assisting a boater obtain a licence or just being there to talk and to pray with people.

He still preaches, mainly in the winter months, and takes meetings talking about Canal Ministries and would be happy to visit your Church on a Sunday or at a midweek service. He can be contacted by the website or email

Hisr boat name is drawn from the verse in Roman 10v5: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news”.

The word Gospel means “Good News” and Belle means “Beautiful”. This is the beautiful Good News he wants to share with others on the canals.

Love in Jesus
